The BSc in Mechanical Engineering has been established at Sapienza University of Rome in 2000. It was conceived as the natural evolution of the historical five-year curriculum studiorum in Mechanics, one of the pillar of the engineering culture of the former School of Engineers of papal Rome by Pope Pius VII in 1817 then merged in 1824 with the University of Rome.

The present Mechanical Engineering Course keeps the educational spirit and objectives since the origin of Mechanical Engineering in the most modern sense, during the industrial revolution in the eighteenth century. This continuity to the tradition is combined with the innovation in the didactic approaches, designed to transfer the research know-how of the academic staff in a continuous improvement of teaching experiences and methodologies.

Becoming a “Mechanical Engineer” still gives an education of international relevance, and studying in Rome warrants the possibility of living a vivid industry-related cultural experience.
